Pasos de Fe U.S. Coordinator

Organization: Presbyterian Border Ministry

Pattern of Service: Mission Volunteer (International)

Position description: This position will enhance the opportunity for PC(USA) members and congregations to participate in the joint mission of the National Presbyterian Church of Mexico and the PCUSA, as described in the Covenant Agreement between our tow churches, and to strengthen mission education and relationships within the two churches.

Essential job tasks and responsibilities: a. Basic Purpose of the Work:

Support the local Presbyterian churches
Facilitate Mission Team Ministry.
Coordinate constituency interpretation.
Coordinate / communicate with PC(USA) Worldwide Ministries Division and Border Ministry

b.Responsibilities/Tasks to be Performed:

A. Facilitate mission teams
1. Communicate with groups who want to visit the partner church.
2. Assist the group in scheduling site visits and activities that reflect the partner's priorities and the interests and composition of the visiting group; facilitate logistical arrangements when feasible.
3. Identify opportunities to worship and serve with members of local churches and communities, and to see and discuss the ministry of the church, in the particular historical, cultural, social context.
4. Prepare and send a basic orientation packet for trip leaders to use in preparing their group for the visit to include: basic information about the partner and the PC(USA) relationship; ministries in which it is engaged; cultural norms and expectations; and logistical arrangements or options; a short reading list.
5. Plan and coordinate the initial orientation of groups.
6. Accompany groups and ensure that group reflection time is scheduled regularly and facilitated.
7. Conduct written and oral evaluation at the end of the visit; use results to improve future programming.

B. Coordinate interpretation
1. Create and send a newsletter and other mission interpretation activities.
2. Develop/maintain a database of visitors to the site.

C. Programming
1. Plan and host activities for pastors and communities.
2. Plan and coordinate future programs for Pasos de Fe
3. Prepare and give presentations at churches and organizations as requested.

D. Coordinate / communicate with PC(USA) Worldwide Ministries Division and Border Ministry
1. Participate in global evaluation and mission materials development efforts with mission personnel engaged in similar activities and with the International Involvement Experiences Office.
2. Maintain regular communications with the Area Office and the International Involvement Experiences Office and the Border Ministry Office concerning individuals and groups scheduled for visits.
3. Provide an annual listing of groups that have visited, to include church or other sponsoring body; names of all participants with contact information; total number of groups and individuals served.

Mission description: Presbyterian Border Ministry (PBM)is a joint labor of the PCUSA and the National Presbyterian Church of Mexico. It is called to share a holistic gospel with those who live along the 2,000 mile US/Mexico border, by respoinding to spiritual, emotional, physical and material needs. Visiting mission groups learn about the spiritual, cultural, and social benefits of striving for mutual mission.
Programs: new church development, ministries of compassion, mission education through mission team visits and promoting justice in all areas.
